A few years ago the first woman pilot of a space shuttle was landing the shuttle back on our planet Earth when Katie Couric mentioned the achievement and then offered “snaps” to the pilot. KATIE!! COME ON!! Mention the achievement but do not belittle the whole thing for us by offering up ‘snaps to the pilot’. Snaps?? I AM one to use ethnic phrases from the minority ethnicities of blacks or hispanics but only for the sole reason that I think it is funny when us plain white bread whities try to get all ethnic and we fail miserably at it. Like we can’t get the accent right, the stress on the right syllable like they do, or the head ‘workin’.
I remember the day my white little girl came home from her white school and repeated a line from the sole black girl represented there…” Don’t MAKE me snap in the ‘Z’ forMAtion!” [It was actually super cute because she was all of about eight years old and she could totally work her hips and head while she three-snapped the 'Z' in the air! You should have seen it. Just picture her little blonde head and skinny white butt cheeks.]
I love calling my husband “Baby” because that is so not ‘us’. And I love calling my 74-yr-old mom and saying, “Hello Mutha!” and then her 74-yr-old self will say, “Hello Dauda!” She’s so funny, my mom.
Hubby HATES it so much when I call him “my brutha” that he will not speak to me afterward. Can you imagine how much I WANT to say it knowing the angry strength of his reaction?? That one tests my maturity, I’m tellin’ ya. I have to laugh right now just thinking about it. yo.
